Professor Darilyn Regina Rowan is the lead instructor and tenured professor in the Photography Department at El Camino College and has been teaching full-time at ECC since 1989. Her teaching responsibilities have included beginning through advanced film and digital photography classes. Professor Rowan teaches Portraiture, Photographic Creative Processes, Elementary and Basic Photography. She has also taught Intermediate and Advanced Photography, Beginning and Advanced Photo-Journalism, and Color Photography. Professor Rowan has conceptualized, organized and installed student photography exhibitions at El Camino College beginning in 1991 in the college library and in local community galleries. She is responsible for curriculum review, program review, degree and certificate requirements and electives review, and organizing supplies and facilities for the adjunct teaching faculty. In the fall of 2008 Professor Rowan took a sabbatical work assignment with a major art auction house working with fine photographs in the fine arts department , including research into the provenance issues of photographs being prepared for auction. During the spring of 2009 Professor Rowan assisted in the design of the renovated new facilities for the ECC Photography Department. She worked with the college facilities to design spaces for both a wet lab darkroom and a digital Mac Lab for digital photography. The design and layout allows students to produce both traditional wet lab silver gelatin photographs, film color photographs and digital images.
