Professor Darilyn Regina Rowan teaches full-time in the Photography Department/Fine Arts Division at El Camino College. Darilyn earned a B.A. in Studio Art/Art History and a Masters degree in Educational Media from Arizona State University. Graduate studies in Educational Media were focused in Documentary Photography, Film Studies and Production, and the Design and Production of Educational Media, including a thesis project “The Concern for Humanity in the Art of Ben Shahn”. Her photographs have been exhibited and published internationally, including one person exhibitions at the Arizona State Capitol Museum, Northlight Photography Gallery and the Cathedral City Library. A set of her photographs is in the collection of Harvard University. Darilyn earned honorable mentions in Photographer’s Forum Best of Photography Competition for 1985 (Best of College Photography), 1989 and 2007 and has placed as a finalist 21 times 1983 through 2011. She has created a set of black and white silver gelatin photograms “A Memento Mori” that was on exhibit during the month of August 2011 at the Cathedral City Library. One of her photographs made in Paris was accepted into the “Novel Destinations” photography exhibition at the Palm Springs Library July 2011. She had an exhibition of black and white photographs in Cathedral City, “Chrysalis”, during March 2012. Professor Darilyn Rowan was honored with the “Making a Difference Award” teaching award by the Daily Breeze in partnership with the Torrance Performing Arts Consortium on April, 29th 2012.
